Missions

Missions have traditionally been the focus in Methodism since the days of John Wesley, the founder of Methodism. Wesley moved outside the church building proper and pure theology into the problems and issues of 18th century. The Warwick United Methodist Church is faithful in mission ministries. Missions are very close to the hearts of our members, of all ages! The current areas of interest are listed below.

Go and Do Projects

go-and-do-Camp

Our church has been reaching out into the local community through service projects, involving preschool age up to adults. The service projects have included: visits with seniors, carry groceries, do yard work, organize basements and the list goes on. This Go and Do outreach ministry to serve the community will continue taking on new forms and expressions to share the love of Christ.

TLC

This is our way to show compassion throughout the year. Tender Loving Care is shown Toward Local Causes by putting our Total Loose Change into a jug in the lobby. Monthly causes include the Alamo, Winslow Riding Foundation, The Newburgh Ministries, Warwick Valley Ecumenical Emergency Fund, and others

Chili Cook-Off

Our annual Missions fundraiser in February. Chili judges for $5 get to sample several donated chilis. The winner gets to wear the chili hat for a year. Funds are used for missions expenses.

Volunteers in Mission

Through the New York Annual Conference, a life-changing experience (overseas-Mozambique) has been another way the global mission has been supported by our congregation for many years.

UMCOR

Giving to the united Methodist Committee on Relief, which serves those struck by natural disasters and tragedies, has been another way the love of Christ has been shared globally by our church.

Newburgh Ministries

The Newburgh Ministries, Inc. Has been one of our emphasis areas. The ministry serves a very needy part of Newburgh, from counseling to clothing. Several of our members are Winterhaven Volunteers, serving as overnight supervision of the homeless shelter for men and women.

Food Pantry

Members volunteer to help staff The Warwick Ecumenical Food Pantry, as well as pick up food from the regional food bank in Cornwall, NY. The Warwick Ecumenical Food Pantry sponsors holiday baskets at both Thanksgiving and Christmas as a community outreach with support from all of the Warwick churches.
